This page lists the cookies and similar storage this website actually uses. It was written by inspecting the site rather than from a template, so it is short. The site itself sets one cookie, and only for our own staff; Google Analytics cookies are set only if you agree; and a few pages load services from Cloudflare or Google that may set their own cookies.
What we set
Strictly necessary
bg_admin_session — set only when someone signs in to our content
management system at /admin/. It holds a signed session token, is
HttpOnly (so page scripts cannot read it), is restricted to this site with
SameSite=Lax, is sent only over HTTPS, and lasts 7 days. It is never set for ordinary
visitors, and it carries no analytics or advertising function. Without it, staff cannot stay signed in.
Security
Cloudflare Turnstile — our contact, enquiry and blog comment forms are protected
by Cloudflare Turnstile, which may set cookies from challenges.cloudflare.com to tell a
person from an automated script. This is what stops the forms filling up with spam. It runs on pages
with a form, not across the site.
Analytics — only if you agree
Google Analytics 4 — if you accept analytics in the banner shown on your first visit,
we use GA4 to understand which pages are read and where visitors arrive from. It sets _ga and
a _ga_-prefixed cookie, used to distinguish one browser from another and to group page views
into a visit. Until you accept, the Google Analytics script is not loaded at all. If you decline, or later
change your mind through Cookie settings at the bottom of every page, it stays off and
any _ga cookies are deleted.
Even with your consent, GA4 runs with Google Consent Mode’s advertising features switched off: no advertising storage, no ad personalisation and no advertising user data.
Your consent choice
Your analytics choice is saved in your browser’s local storage under bg_consent
(not a cookie), so the banner does not ask again on every page.
Embedded Google services
Our careers pages embed a Google Form for job applications, which loads with the page, and our contact details include a Google Map, which loads only when you click to show it. Google may set its own cookies when these load; see Google’s privacy policy.
Local storage used by our free tools
Several of our free tools — the SEO analyser, the meta tag, schema and QR code generators, the UTM builder and the ROI calculator — keep a small record in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie) of when you last used them, so that they can limit repeated use. The UTM builder also keeps the last 10 links you generated there, so you can reuse them. These records stay in your browser; you can clear them in your browser’s site-data settings.
What we deliberately do not use
This part is worth stating plainly, because most agency websites carry far more than they disclose:
- No advertising or remarketing tags. Google Ads conversion tags and the LinkedIn Insight Tag were removed from this site and have not been reinstated.
- No tag manager. Google Tag Manager was removed. Analytics is loaded directly from our own code, and only after your consent, which means no third party can add a tracker to this site without a code change by us.
- No cross-site advertising pixels, no data brokers, and no session-replay or heatmap tools.
Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers let you refuse third-party cookies while keeping first-party ones. Blocking analytics cookies does not affect your use of this site; you can also decline or withdraw analytics at any time through Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Blocking the Turnstile cookies may prevent our forms from submitting, because the form cannot then confirm you are not an automated script — if a form will not send, that is usually the cause.
Changes
If we add anything that sets a cookie, this page changes with it. If you find something on this site setting a cookie that is not listed here, please tell us — that is a defect, and we would want to know.
