Will WhatsApp Will Be the Key to Engaging People in the Lok Sabha Elections

Is social media just about using it to connect with family and friends, the answer is No, as it has revolutionized the way politicians used to communicate with the public and the media. Things have changed drastically as the Internet has become one of the essential parts of our live. With the launch of Smartphone’s and apps, people are enabled to be online anytime they want and get information whenever they want.
Now one of the most interesting things, which could affect the Lok Sabha Elections, is the increasing number of mobile apps. There are a number of mobile apps available which makes people to chat, video conference, voice mail with their family and friends, but now politicians are using for their own agenda to spread their message effectively.

As in this era all the politicians are tapping into the age of technology to reach voters, the potential of such applications has been used both for private as well as for group messaging as a way of increasing voter support. Staying with politics, politicians are turning to the popular cross-platform mobile messaging app i.e. WhatsApp to directly connect with the voters. They are building on their presence through WhatsApp as it is helping as an accelerator in conveying their messages to the citizens. It has become the most effective means of political campaigning and social networking tool for it.
Congress is using apps likes Whatsapp and BBM to send messages to Indian citizens through their WhatsApp numbers – With Congress (8398989898) and Mission 272+ (7820078200) respectively, to highlight their achievements. BJP are already contacting and promoting their stand to increase user engagement to connect with the voters as well. They are leaving no stone unturned to reach out to the Indian citizens through WhatsApp and other social media to influence the Indian citizens. Now we just have to see that will WhatsApp and other social media will be the game changer in this coming Lok Sabha Elections.
